Two big things have happened in our family. Mopsy has weaned, with very little encouragement from me. And Cotton-tail is walking! At 9 3/4 months! What is going on??? She’s very wobbly, and looks very drunk, taking one step and then waiting to balance, then another one, then plopping down on her cloth-nappied bottom. Feels a bit less pleasant when nappy-free but doesn’t seem to bother her. She’s very cute, particularly as she’s so small to be walking!

Well done Cottontail.
I seem to have lost your blog somehow recently. Glad to have found it again
I know that you are quite knowledgeable about b reast feeding. Any suggestions for dealing with a two year old who insists on nipping one b reast while feeding from the other? I really want him to self wean but at the same time I am getting so sick of this. Tried breaking his latch and saying ‘no’ but he goes back and does the same thing again.

Well done to Mopsy and Cotton-tail!
Claire, I’m not an expert like Clare but the way that I deal with this is just to hold his wondering hand in my hand. Sometimes he’s happy for me to hold my hand other times I count his fingers or do ’round and round the garden’. Apparently this ‘twiddling’ is do to with increasing the milk supply. Clare will probably know if this is true.or not.
Hope you don’t mind me answering your questions, Clare!
Best wishes,
Katherine

Don’t mind at all! Mother-to-mother support is the best there is
I’ve emailed Claire directly. And you’re nearly right - extra breast and nipple stimulation helps the milk let-down faster and for impatient older babies and toddlers that’s very important! So yes, holding their other hand, and playing games with them can help. Some mums wear a necklace to encourage their baby to play with while they’re breastfeeding.
